South African movie, Ayanda, has been picked up by Netflix. This makes it the first South African movie to get on the video streaming platform that just extended it’s operation to accommodate countries in Africa.
The Netflix release is fantastic news and, in a way, is the realisation of a dream,” said director Sara Blecher.
Ayanda is one of the first films to be released on the platform,” said Blecher.
The film will be screened at more than 10 international festivals over the next few months, including the Göteborg Film Festival in Sweden, the Toronto International Film Festival’s Next Wave, the Toronto Black Film Festival and the San Francisco Independent Film Festival.
Ayanda is a love story chronicling the sordid struggle of a 22-year-old mechanic to hang onto her father’s legacy while dealing with her sexual distractions.
