The world of music has lost yet another pioneer as R&b singer Billy Paul, aged 80 years, best known for his “Me and Mrs Jones” hit has passed on.
His management confirmed the news that he passed away in his home in New Jersey after losing the battle to pancreatic cancer.
A statement on the late singer’s website reads:
“We regret to announce with a heavy heart that Billy has passed away today in his home after a serious medical condition. We would like to extend our most sincere condolences to his wife Blanche and family for their loss as they and the world grieves the loss of another musical icon that helped pioneer today’s R&B music.”
The R&B pioneer is survived by his wife Blanche and their two children.
Billy career spanned about 6 decades and he performed live until his illness, having lined up a number of appearances at the time of his death and loved to cover Purple Rain by legendary Prince who died at age 57 last Thursday.
