It’s official! Comedian, producer and actor Chris Rock will be hosting the 2016 Oscars, which will be the second time he will be hosting the biggest night in the world of movies.

The job of hosting the Oscars is highly rated in the entertainment industry because of the platform it gives its host, as they don’t just get to fraternize with an audience filled with A-list actors and actresses, but also connect with more than 40 million viewers in just the United States alongside viewers from all around the world

The return of Chris Rock who last hosted the live Academy Awards telecast in 2005, was announced on Wednesday by producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin which didn’t really come as a surprise as the show witnessed a 16 percent drop in its rating in the last show hosted by Neil Patrick Harris. The Oscars needed a host who could turn that around and with Chris Rock that’s almost guaranteed.

The producers were full of praise for the 2016 Oscars Host as they both took turns to heap praises on the producer of star of the 2015 comedy movie, Top 5, who they said was their first choice for the position of the host from the on-set.

We looked at the (2005) Oscars and said it doesn’t get better than this. Let’s see is Chris is available. Chris Rock is truly the MVP of the entertainment industry,” said Hill and Hudlin. “Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian. He’s done it all. He’s going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!”
Rock screams film, and that is what we are doing with the show this year. The show is going to be about movies.”

Although the producers debunked claims that the choice of Chris Rock as the host of the Oscars was not linked to the need to infuse a form of cultural diversity into the awards, having him on the bill would definitely help in creating a balance, and an excited Chris Rock didn’t hesitate to share the news on Twitter.
