Earlier this year, American artist, Jidenna received some backlash for making comments about his negative experiences in Nigeria due to his fair skin. That still didn’t deter his response in an open letter expressing his cultural pride:
There is no question that Africa is playing a pivotal role in the future of our planet and that Nigeria, with it’s booming economy and burgeoning middle class, is a driving force. I will continue to play my role in the Renaissance taking place in Nigeria and Africa at large.” (cool points. check)
Now the Classic Man, has taken things up a notch with his recent photo shoot, showcasing his heritage and funking up his image at the same time. (We approve!)
The Wisconsin-born singer teamed up with with a West African fashion website, All Things Ankara, to promote “Nigerian Renaissance,” which is the website’s Nigerian Independence Ball.
The 30-year-old hit-maker will also serve as the ball’s co-ambassador on Oct. 17 in Maryland, along with philanthropist and model, Jessica Chibueze.
Highlighting a 16th century monarchy image while dunned in an African royal assemble, Jidenna, (whose father is from Nigeria by the way) indeed stuns in the project.
The clothes were designed by the website’s founder Nikki Billie Jean who, along with others, made the designs to reflect a mix of their African heritage and the French Renaissance.
