Haben Girma is a disability rights lawyer with a disability of her own. Haben is both blind and deaf, but that never stopped her.
Haben Girma attended Lewis & Clark College. Afterwards, she went to Harvard Law school and graduated in 2013. She came into the public eye after speaking at the White House recently.
Girma lives in California and has been a Skaaden Fellowship Attorney since 2013. She works as a disability rights advocate, and she is making a difference.
She met with Obama for the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disability’s Act. She introduced the President, you can watch her words and Obama’s below.
Some of Girma’s interests and causes include Build On, a non-profit that inspires American high schoolers, and IDEA, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Girma has spoke at both events.
Girma has also been a speaker at TED and Google.
Girma is an inspiration to not just people with disabilities, but for everyone. So many people feel as though they can’t do something for whatever reason. Maybe you tell yourself you aren’t smart enough, rich enough, pretty enough, or whatever the case maybe. Girma is living proof that you can do anything that you set your mind to. Hard work and dedication can combat any problem or so-called ‘stumbling block’ in your path.
