While a lot of African entertainers are shying away from one top international award or another, the reverse is the case for Ghanian dance hall artiste, Samini, whose dream is to win a Grammy Award.
Samini, who is one of Ghana’s standout artistes in the last 10 years, has won almost every award on the continent including the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) in the UK. But, he still wants to go for the biggest prize in world music and earn Ghana’s local music industry, its first Grammy.
“Like every other mainstream act, you would want to have a Grammy tag, so we still working and if that recognition comes, then that’s like yeah.” He told this to the folks at Vibes TV in interview.
However, Samini might not be the first Ghanian artiste to break the Grammy jinx because fellow Reggae Musician Rocky Dawuni has been nominated for this year’s award. This makes him, (Rocky Dawuni) the first Ghanian to be nominated for a Grammy Award.
