Janet Jackson has stated that contrary to rumours going around various gossip sites, she does not have cancer.
The singer took to her social media accounts to lay the rumour to rest with the message:
Remember … believe it when you hear it from my lips,.“The rumours are untrue. I do not have cancer. I’m recovering.”
Jackson made her point with a short video featuring a snippet of song “The Great Forever”, off her recent album Unbreakable.
The lyrics read:
Sources say but where you gettin’ it/ Don’t create the truth you like.”
Seems like a perfect fit for the moment.
On 24 December 2015, Janet Jackson released a statement on her twitter account about needing to postpone upcoming tour dates to undergo surgery. She didn’t give any further statement on the incident which kind of fueled the rumours that her health was worse than she was letting on.
The rumour that she was diagnosed with cancer came to light when gossip website, Radaronline, published a report that an anonymous source confirmed that Janet Jackson’s doctor found a “growth on Janet’s vocal cords.”
The article made inferences to throat cancer, and included speculation that the tumor could spell the end of her career.
However, Jackson’s message dismissed the rumours and went on to state that the European leg of her Unbreakable world tour would go on as planned. She will start in the UK in March while her postponed US dates will be rescheduled.
I’m glad the whole thing is a rumour and I hope to see her back on stage in no time.
