I guess it’s true what they say about celebrity lifestyle being more about the public image than the pocket rate. Because Nollywood actor, Femi Branch, could go to jail for biting much more than he can chew.
The actor was charged to a magistrate court in Nigeria for reportedly issuing a dud cheque to a Hotel in Lagos. The dud cheque was for his $5769 bill after staying in the hotel for about four weeks.

The incident, which is obviously a crime anywhere in the world, led to his arrest after the hotel staff lodged a complaint against him. He was charged and later granted a bail of $1923 due to self-recognition. In the court ruling, Femi Branch was remanded in Kirikiri Prison until he could fulfill his bail condition.

I even got information that the actor “managed” to fullfil his bail condition, just in time for the Best of Nollywood awards (BON) that took place about a week ago.
There is really no need to doubt the validity of this story because there are court documents that backs up the story which makes it even more surprising that someone like him, will subject himself to this level of public ridicule. Because he is now the butt of people’s joke on social media.

I would have understood this, if Femi Branch’s career was experiencing a downward spiral and he was having issues with cash. But the reverse is the case ( at least from what I know!), and you definitely won’t be sued to court if the cheque you issued didn’t bounce.

Funny enough I’m a big fan of Femi Branch, so I’m expecting him to come out with a “believable” explanation or this will just destroy his credibility in the entertainment industry.

The case has been adjourned to January 6, 2016.
