Nigerians are currently slaying President Buhari for erroneously claiming that Nigerians have given the country a bad reputation because they are mostly “into” crime. I find this totally absurd and myopic.
Nigerians are one of the most hard working people on the planet. They have carved a niche for themselves regardless of the terrible state of governance they have been subjected to since independence, so for a President to make this kind of statement, it shows how little he knows about his own country.
According to the Nigerian president:
“Some Nigerians claim is that life is too difficult back home, but they have also made it difficult for Europeans and Americans to accept them because of the number of Nigerians in prisons all over the world accused of drug trafficking or human trafficking,” he told The Telegraph.
“I don’t think Nigerians have anybody to blame. They can remain at home, where their services are required to rebuild the country.”
When Nigerians got wind of his interview the UK tabloid, Telegraph, they wasted no time in putting the president back in his place with the hashtag #NigeriansAreNotCriminals
