The NYU Skirball Center hosted the 9th annual Nigerian Entertainment Awards back on Aug. 31st. Nollywood is continuing to make big moves in the film industry at large.
The award’s show celebrates the music, movies, and more of African entertainers across the globe. The event was hosted by Ice Prince Zamani, known for his heavily remixed single “Oleku,” and Osas Igohodaro, winner of the Miss Black USA in 2010.
Big names in African entertainment that were in attendance included Frances Onyemaechi Udukwu, Miss Nigeria USA, Fata EL Presidente a hip-hop artist, Yemi Alade winner of best female artist of the year, and Jimmie Akinsola winner of Entertainment Personality of the year.
The award show started off with a musical performance from up and comers followed by well known musical acts. The event at large had way more audience interaction than a typical award show. Artists got off the stage and danced with the crowd and their fans.
The event was DJayed by DJ Cuppy, a Nigerian well-known DJ, who works at Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
Nollywood took to social media to share some love, joy, and success from the event:
As Nollywood continues to grow not only in Nigeria, but around the world, the NEA will become a bigger and bigger event in years to come.
