Please, Please, and please don’t go to College!. Infact stay away from College by all means necessary!.
You wondering why i’m making this important public service announcement that everyone seems to be ignoring, just like the infamous “smokers are liable to die young” tag that indirectly cajoles smokers to get more sticks of cigarette.
Before you jump and attack me for making this awkward declaration out of the blues. Let me ask you a couple of question.
Why do you want to go college or better still why did you go to College?
To get a job?
Get accepted in the society?
Make your parents proud?
How many have of all these things have you gotten after all the years in college?. Hmm not a lot right?.
This is where the problem lies because the reason why we rush to college is to get the almighty American dream. Which is what colleges sell to us to get students to part with money that could have been expended on chasing their dreams. So you end up getting disappointed when you don’t get the “mirage” that you were promised.
According to Forbes 44% of college grads in their 20s are stuck in low-wage, dead-end jobs, the highest rate in decades, and the number of young people making less than $25,000 has also spiked to the highest level since the 1990s.
By this point, we’ve all realized that we’ve been lied to: working hard and getting a solid education does not necessarily lead to career success, or even a decent-paying job.
So here is the catch! Most of us are going to college for the wrong reasons and that’s why we keep having problems. College is an amazing opportunity to discover ourselves and use the connections to better yourself in the future. It’s certainly not the ticket to financial freedom.
College is the place to shape your future, not the place to make yourself rigid and tailor made for one particular job.
College is the place to make to sharpen the skills you already have with a paper qualification. That the corporate world needs.
A college degree is only over rated only because we see it as the eldorado. So until we break free from that crazy circle. We’ll keep having educated jobless people or worse, people who are stuck with jobs that are not happy with just to offset the huge college loans they’ve piled up.
So by all means go to College, but do it for the right reasons!.
