Michelle Obama has helped thousands of youngsters get good education and she is now being honoured for her effort.
According to Black America Web the United States First Lady Michelle Obama’s name is now being adopted by public schools in the United States as a reward for the effort she has put into getting kids to school.
The list of schools that have adopted her name includes Michelle Obama Elementary in Panorama City, California, a K – 5 school in the Los Angeles district that serves a largely Hispanic student body. The former Valley Region Elementary opened in 2012.
This gesture is not entirely new to the Obamas because barely 100 days into office they were honoured with the Barack and Michelle Obama Learning Elementary emerged in St. Paul, Minnesota. The name of the K – 5 school, which includes African-American studies in its curriculum, was changed after the school board voted on it just 100 days into Obama’s first four years.
“The Obama name was selected… because the values that the First Family models are unparalleled precedents and are values that our students strive to emulate,” district superintendent Joyce Carmine revealed after the honour was bestowed on them.
It will be recalled that Michelle Obama teamed up with the SNL team to produce a rap video encouraging kids to go college and also put a song titled This is for my Girls featuring a host of top female artists to promote girl education
