It’s quite obvious that Rkelly will never outgrow the underage sex scandal that has trailed him all through his career. The issue resurfaced again in an interview with Huffington Post’s Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani where he had to walk out of the set because she wouldn’t stop asking questions about his sexual past.
Rkelly appeared on Huffington Post Live on Monday December 21st to promote his 13th studio album The Buffet, but the interview turned out to be a mini nightmare for the R&B singer.
Six minutes into the interview, Caroline pushed Kelly to answer questions about why he thought The Buffet might not have sold well. Before jumping into naysayers who claim allegations about his past (including those about sexual relations with minors) made it impossible for people to support the album.
But Rkelly was not in the mood to deal with issues of this nature as he responded.
I didn’t come here for negative. I came here for positive. I don’t give people that’s negative towards me the time of day … When you start getting negativity coming at you, you pretty much don’t wanna hear that crap. Especially if it was, what, I don’t know how many years ago.
So what I’m gonna tell you is that I am going to sit here and talk gonna talk to you like the beautiful lady you are and I’m gonna talk to you with respect but I’m gonna let you know that any other negative things come at me out of your mouth, as far as negativity, I’m gonna get up and walk out and I’m gonna go to McDonald’s. Hopefully, the McRib is out and I’m going to go home to Chicago, play me some basketball, go to the studio and work on my next album,” he said.
It’s obvious the host knew she had caught an opening as she kept probing him till he stormed off midway into the interview after she kept on bringing up the issue.
While I understand the fact that Rkelly’s past is not all rosy, the host should have respected the man’s wish and just asked other questions, without making any reference to something that will obviously piss him off. Because from the clip, it’s quite obvious that she was trying to get under his skin (it’s kind of her job though).
This shows whatever decision you make, might and will leave with you and after you. But he (Rkelly) earned more of my respect with the way handled the whole issue. Because even though he had to stormed off, he did it with style.
