As expected, Riri delivers the unexpected – a completely different Album name and cover!
No. It’s not R8 like we all thought for the last few months. The album is titled ANTI.
True enough, the casual reference of Rihanna’s forthcoming eighth album as R8 was spurred by the singer’s own use of the title in promos, but it looks like another title became more fitting.
So, because Badgalriri is indeed a rebel and the antithesis of all that’s expected in her own right, the 27-year-old delivered once again at an intimate and private party last night at MAMA Gallery in Los Angeles, where she unveiled both the cover art and title of her upcoming record.
No bathing suit or skin revealing attire was needed this time for a front cover like Rih’s previous albums.
But her sex-appeal was all over as the Barbados native presented a mature, meaningful and appealing image for her upcoming work.
With the entire album covered in braille, painted by artist, Roy Nachum, a five-year-old Rihanna can be seen wearing a gold crown over her eyes, while holding a popping blood red balloon that mirrors a similar toned background.
On her Instagram, Rihanna not only posted the dictionary definition of ANTI, she also posted big blocked letters promoting the album name with hashtags. (simple yet significant.)
Rihanna who hasn’t released an album since 2012’s Unapologetic, said during the unveiling,
This is my favorite album cover I’ve ever done.” And, regarding the concept, “Sometimes the ones who have sight are the blindest.”
The star’s rep noted in a press release that,
This is the first time an album has ever incorporated physical Braille. The Braille inscription will also allow people who are blind to experience an entire album by touch.”
Although the closest thing we have to a release date is “coming soon,” the unique album name has revved up an already long-standing anticipation.
And judging by the themes and success of her three singles, FourFiveSeconds, American Oxygen and B**** Better Have My Money, the album name Anti sounds perfect for the rebel queen’s 8th album.
