Naeto C is done with sagging for good.
Nigerian hip hop act, Naeto C, is one of the “coolest” dudes in the Nigerian entertainment scene. He is , also, one of the few celebs who has been scandal free, ever since he got his big break with song, “Kini Big Deal.”
The rapper prides himself as the only MC with an MSC. He was well into the whole hip hop cultural way of dressing with sagged jeans and big boots Recently, he has revealed that he had to change his dress code because those outfit made him look stupid.
In a recent interview with Punch Newspaper said;
“I think I grew up and realized it looked stupid. When I was a younger artiste, I did not care much about my image. But now that I am grown, I pay attention to my image because the people I perform for are my clients.”
Naeto C explained that he had to do away with that style of dressing because he now has new image to protect and clients to cater to.
My client is a mature person who obviously can afford my services. You don’t want your client to see you as irresponsible because tomorrow, when you go to the same client for a business proposition, he would not take you seriously if you are sagging. The client would see you as immature and irresponsible. I think being mature and responsible made me stop sagging,” he said.
Around Africa, sagging is often seen as a style adopted by irresponsible people and celebs have helped in dispelling this notion a bit.
The African society and corporate bodies won’t take you serious if you “sag your pants” (seems logical and sometimes odd to me). So Naeto C has a valid point, the act of trading a jean for a suit is not really new in hip hop. It seems the likes Birdman
, Snoop Dogg
, and TI who still rock the “hip hop” look haven’t gotten the memo yet or they just don’t care.
