The Black Panther writer was announced today as Ta-Nehisi Coates.
The comic book franchise is continually planning their media takeover. The Marvel Cinematic Universe plans to release the Black Panther during phase 3 in the summer of 2018.
Chadwick Boseman will be playing the legendary hero and the first ever black comic superhero. Marvel announced today that Ta-Nehisi Coates will be writing the newest version of the famed comic.
After Viola Davis memorable Oscar speech, it’s good to see that Marvel is putting some more diversity behind the scenes. This will only help open up opportunities for other blacks in media.
From Black Panther to Black Panther Writer
Coates is more than just a writer. He actually skipped the traditional education path. He dropped out of Howard to become a journalist. He landed his first job at the Washington Post, and it’s has been off to the races ever since.
The Black Panther writer has a father who was a Black Panther. It’s almost as if things are coming full circle. Coates has written numerous books and is currently a national correspondent at the Atlantic.
It’s good to see Marvel deliver on their promise of diversity. Coates should be able to return the series to all of it’s former glory. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was able to give the series new life. Marvel wants new fans in anticipation of the movie release.
Coates says when he writes he will be “trying to please a 12-year old me.” Well 12 year old Coates, you’re now the Black Panther writer and we’re pretty psyched about it.
