When you think you’ve seen enough weird news already, you find out that a white actor has been cast to play Michael Jackson.
In the midst of the call for diversity, Joseph Fiennes, a white British actor best has been cast as Michael Jackson in a new half-hour TV comedy about an unconfirmed road trip the singer reportedly took with Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Although this came out as a rumour, a representative for production company Sky Arts confirmed the news on Wednesday evening. This has led to an outrage on social media which is totally understandable because I don’t understand how and why someone in their right senses will pick a white actor to play Michael Jackson.
Although folks would want to justify this “whitewashing” act by saying Micheal’s skin was white in 2001, we are all aware of the fact that there are some light skinned black actors. And any of them would have easily passed off a lighter looking Micheal Jackson.
I’m apparently not the only that can’t wrap his head this #Whitewashing as folks have taken to twitter to air their grievances. See some of their tweets below;
